Native Plants on Nearby Hiking Trails

Come to a presentation by Richard Stomberg about the native plants you can discover on two Northern Shenandoah Valley hiking trails located in Frederick and Warren counties.

Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park's newly expanded and engaging 19^th Corps Trails is the first trail Mr. Stomberg will discuss. Along with the history that surrounds the walk of the Civil War battle of Cedar Creek, you will see what native plants and flowers can be found along the trail, which has a trailhead at Belle Grove Plantation. You will see how Mr. Stromberg has found the natives along the approximately 3 miles of the 19th Corps Trails and he will tell you the locations where you can see these plants at various times of the year.

The second local trail is south in the town of Front Royal. Mr. Stromberg has included the pictures and locations of the sites of the native plants that were found along the Royal Shenandoah Greenway in Warren County.

The presentation will be held on Sunday February 2, from 1-3 p.m. in the lower level of the Manor House at Belle Grove (336 Belle Grove Road, Middletown, VA 22645).

Coffee, tea, and refreshments of home baked goods will be shared with attendees. 

Mr. Stromberg is a Master Gardener Emeritus who has taught many classes on native plants. He is an avid hiker who has given guided trail talks in the Shenandoah Valley. He is also a member of the Virginia Native Plant Society and supports cleaning the trails and to combat invasive plants. He is also a Master Naturalist and newsletter editor for the Piedmont Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society and Potomac Appalachian Trail Club.

Registration is $15 per person and is required due to limited seating.
